The creation of this piece involved extensive community engagement, including regular meetings, research, and focus groups, to gather authentic details about each unique culture. Commissioned in 2019 and completed in December 2020 for Sajdah House, a historic home museum in Chicago.

“The Cracked Atom” features seven meticulously detailed life-size bronze figures encircling a stainless steel atom center. Each figure represents a distinct branch of the African diaspora, showcasing unique details and cultural accents meticulously captured in bronze. Every aspect, from clothing patterns and shoes to jewelry, eyelashes, and hair texture, was carefully considered and vividly portrayed.
