The Victor pays homage to the Victor Fire Company, an early volunteer group of African American firefighters in Raleigh. The centerpiece balances abstract geometry with figurative representation, depicting a firefighter emerging from a blaze carrying a rescued figure. This central silhouette, formed by a vibrant red sunburst, symbolizes the transition from chaos to hope.
The installation serves as an immersive historical environment. Leading away from the sculpture, a winding path features bronze plaques detailing the timeline of the Raleigh Fire Department. Flanking this journey are six laser-cut benches inscribed with the core values of the department and the community: Courage, Service, Unity, and Honor. By merging technical precision with local heritage, The Victor creates an open, reflective space that honors the legacy of those who paved the way for modern fire service.
